Storm Safety: What to Know Before Severe Weather Hits

With storm season here, Black Hills Electric Cooperative encourages members to stay prepared and informed. Storms can bring strong winds, hail, and lightning, these can create dangerous conditions and the potential for power outages.

If you see a downed powerline, always assume it is live and dangerous. Stay away from the power line and report it immediately. Never attempt to move downed wire, even if you believe it is no longer live.

Storm damage can also affect meters. After a storm, if you notice your meter is damaged by hail or debris, don’t touch it or try to inspect it yourself. Call us for assistance, our crew will come and replace what is needed.

Safety is our number one priority. By preparing in advance and knowing what to do when a storm occurs, you can help protect yourself and your family.

During a storm our crews work effortlessly to restore all of our members as safely and as quickly as possible.

If you are out of power or see any damage or something that doesn’t look right, call us at 800-742-0085. We answer our phones 24/7, however after hours our calls are routed to our dispatch center.
