2026 Rate Adjustment
Black Hills Electric’s Board of Directors has approved a rate adjustment effective May 2026. This adjustment is necessary due to rising wholesale power costs and to ensure we can continue providing safe, reliable electricity to our members.
Our wholesale power provider, Basin Electric Power Cooperative, has increased its rates over the past two years. During that time, Black Hills Electric has absorbed these additional costs without passing them on to our members.
In addition, we have experienced substantial price increases for critical materials. These increases affect essential infrastructure items such as transformers, poles, wire, and other equipment required to maintain and improve our electric system.
Our members’ best interests are always at the forefront of every decision we make. Rates are set by your locally elected Board of Directors, with input from management. Our mission remains unchanged: to provide excellent service at the lowest possible cost, consistent with sound business practices.
Rate increases are never easy, but this adjustment is necessary to maintain the reliability and quality of service you expect. We appreciate your understanding and continued trust. We are truly here to serve you.
Below, you will find rate calculators for our three most common rate options. For all other rate information, please contact our Member Services Department by calling 800-742-0085.
